Father’s Day

My father has been gone 19 years and there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think of him or have something that reminds me of him. This week has been even more so since it’s the anniversary of his passing and Father’s Day as well.

My father didn’t expect much of me when I was young other than do well in school and stay out of trouble. He also taught me how to be self reliant. Because of his influence I developed an over abundance of curiosity and stict-to-it-tiveness.  I’ve always been curious and have a drive to find out how things work. I love to figure out challenges and I’ve managed to learn how to work every power tool and I bought them all.

I got my pilot’s license when I was 35 because I was afraid of flying and took great pride in taking my father up for a flight before telling him I had gotten the license.  He told me how proud he was and it made my heart soar!

When I decided to remodel my bathroom, my father came and helped me. One of my funniest memories was when he was kneeling on a black plastic bag and he slipped and got his sock stuck in the linoleum adhesive. I started laughing and he turned to say something and he slipped again and sat in the adhesive. I laughed so hard that he started laughing.

I hope you are creating new memories with your father today or at least re-living old memories.

Happy Father’s Day to all you great dads out there for giving us all the gift of their love and guidance.
